Clothing and Fashion Have Substantial Environmental Impact

In every stage of production and consumption clothing has a large impact on our

environment. Our choices of clothing show our mood, preference, and the climate we each live

in.The clothes we wear, what they are made of,how they are made, are an echo of who we

are and what we believe in. Conscious of it or not our clothes can define our role model.

Today's green fibers include organic cotton,bamboo,soybean fiber,hemp,SeaCell,and

sasawashi and echo-friendly hybrid fibers such as Tencel and Modal. Also used are

repressed vintage fabrics, cashmere, leather, silk, and wool. Some recycled fibers are made

from soda pop bottles,mill-end surplus products fabrics, cotton, wool, and leather.

Remember the true cost of clothing impacts are not on the hang tags. The cost to the planet

and the people who produce it can tell you the story of environmental impact. For example

cotton saturated with pesticides, and fabric dyes laden with heavy metals;oil extracted from

the land;chemicals used to scour, bleach, and finish fabrics have a very high impact on our

planet. Buying sustainable clothing that comes from echo friendly fabrics and colored with

low impact dyes is a step for helping to save the environment. Buying quality clothing is

another step because qaulity means the clothes you buy last longer.Buying echo-friendly

clothes will make you feel good knowing you have done a small step to help save our planet

and it's environment.
